Isn’t it ironic how Used Car Dealerships have a reputation for being shady, when in fact most of them are very honest? There’s a million jokes out there about the used car salesman, most of which don’t resemble actual car salesmen at all! Most used car salesmen are honest, hardworking people who work for dealerships that have a reputation for only selling reliable, trustworthy vehicles. So where do these silly stereotypes come from? Unfortunately, they are based on the few dealerships out there that actually do sell lemons.

But how do you tell the difference? The answer is simple: trust your instinct. The best used car dealerships have great reputations in their communities, and have been in business for a number of years. They’ll have clean lots, clean vehicles, and friendly, helpful salesman who aren’t pushy. Their mechanics will be knowledgeable and skilled at what they do, and their finance people will give you decent trade in values. Above all, you won’t feel like you are in the middle of a bad used care salesman joke when you walk into the lot or take a test drive.

The used car dealerships to avoid are the ones that spring up overnight. These “dealerships” are easy to spot. They’ll have a very small inventory, with vehicles that don’t appear to be well taken care of. Prices will be written on the windshields in washable paint, and there will be a distinct lack of information on each vehicle. They probably won’t have more than one or two employees, who aren’t likely to be very knowledgeable about the vehicles they are selling. Again, trust your instinct. If the place looks like a bad joke, then it probably is.

Choosing a dealership should be like choosing any other business. Look for ones with excellent service, professional and clean locations, and a good reputation, like Heritage Motors Corporate Center. And remember, try not to get lured in by the low prices of cheaper “dealerships”. You’ll get exactly what you pay for, and may just find yourself in the middle of a bad joke. And remember what they say “Good cars aren’t cheap, and cheap cars aren’t good”.
