Getting the Old One Off
The first step in this process is the removal of your stock tank. In most cases, you will have around four to five bolts holding this tank on the frame of the bike. You will need to have a quality ratchet and socket to remove these bolds and nuts. Make sure the tank you are taking off is empty, due to the hazard that a full tank of gasoline can pose. By taking your time and plotting out your course of action you will be able to get the old tank off in no time.
Aligning and Adjusting
The next thing you will need to do when trying to get your new Harley gas tank on is to get it aligned properly and adjusted. The only way you will be able to get the tank on your bike the right way is by playing around with it and seeing how it will best mount up. The more you are able to find out about the tank you have, the easier it will be to get it mounted the right way.
Checking the Lines
Once you have the tank mounted, you will need to make sure all of the gas lines are hooked up properly. The last thing you want to do is have your lines loose due to the gas they could spill out everywhere. This can cause a lot of damage by letting this happen, to both your motorcycle and yourself. You need to check and recheck the line connections on the tank to ensure they are snug. The time and effort you put into this process will be more than worth it in the end.
